Editorial & Accuracy Policy
Last updated ยท 12 July 2026
We publish information about voting, residence, healthcare and public services, to people whose rights depend on getting it right. That obligation shapes how we work.
We use AI to draft. We do not use AI to decide what is true.
We say this openly because most publishers using AI do not.
Draft guides on this site are prepared with the assistance of AI. An AI draft is a starting point, never a source. Before any guide is published:
- Every factual statement must be traceable to an official source, normally a Maltese government website (
.gov.mt), an EU institution, or primary legislation. If a claim cannot be sourced, it is removed. Not softened, removed. - The official source is published on the page, linked, so you can check us.
- The date of last verification is published on the page.
- A named human reviewer signs off. Today, that is the founder.
Every guide carries this, at the top
Once a guide has been checked line-by-line against its official source, we display, at the top:
๐ Last verified: [date]
๐ Official source: [specific link, never a bare domain]
โ ๏ธ General information only, not legal advice. Always confirm your situation with the relevant Maltese authority.
Guides marked "awaiting verification" have not yet completed our source-checking process. We publish this status openly, at the top of the guide, rather than imply a verification we have not done. Treat those guides as a starting point and check the relevant Maltese authority yourself before acting on them.
Information gets old. We check.
Rules on residence, registration and voting change. We re-verify our civic guides against their official sources on a rolling basis and update the verification date. If a guide's date is old, treat it with caution and check the official source, we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.
Corrections
Found an error? Tell us: info@expatvoice.mt
- We investigate every correction request.
- Where we are wrong, we fix it within 7 days.
- Significant corrections are noted on the page, with the date. We do not quietly edit and pretend it never happened.
What we will never do
- โ Publish information about voting or immigration that we have not verified against an official source.
- โ Publish someone's personal data from a report or a story without their explicit consent.
- โ Publish statistics so granular that an individual could be identified. We never publish a figure derived from fewer than 5 reports, in a country of Malta's size, "one report, one nationality, one locality" is a person, not a statistic.
- โ Name private individuals or private companies in stories or reports. We describe conduct, never identity.
- โ Accept payment to publish, alter or suppress a guide.
- โ Publish partisan content. ExpatVoice is independent and non-partisan: not affiliated with, funded by, or aligned to any political party, candidate or movement. We take positions on issues, never on parties.
We are not lawyers
ExpatVoice does not provide legal, immigration, medical or financial advice, and nothing on this site should be relied on as such. For advice about your situation, consult a qualified professional or the relevant Maltese authority.
